Frequently asked questions
The questions customers ask most often before ordering. If yours is not covered here, email [email protected].
How much does it cost?
Activation is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and it is tied to the device rather than to the computer you install from — so it survives updates, and changing computer does not mean buying it again.
The price is confirmed on the payment page.
What do I need in front of me?
- A microSD card, at least 2 GB. Most machines do not come with one when purchased, so this is usually the first thing to sort out — see step 3 of the guide. It is only required during the installation and can be removed afterwards.
- The G8 itself, powered up.
- A computer running Windows, macOS or Linux (desktop or laptop).
- Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera, up to date.
- A USB-C data cable (not a charge-only one — see the guide).
- About 20 minutes, most of which is waiting.
No driver is required on Windows or macOS: the computer recognises the G8 on its own. The USB-C port and the card slot are both in the SD-card area on the right-hand side.
Can I do it from my phone or tablet?
No. A desktop or laptop computer is required, running Windows, macOS or Linux.
The tool talks to the device over USB from the browser. No mobile browser permits that, and Safari and Firefox do not support it on a computer either.
Is my firmware supported?
This build is validated for firmware 7.0 and earlier. If your unit is newer, the app reports this and leaves the device untouched.
Support for newer firmware is added once it has been validated. If your unit is not yet supported, email [email protected] and we will let you know as soon as it is.
How long does it take, and what happens at the end?
The tool downloads the system image and installs it. The download is about 150 MB on most machines, and up to 700 MB on older firmware — newer base versions use a much smaller update. On a normal connection, allow 10–20 minutes.
Once the install is triggered, the device restarts several times over about three minutes while it applies. This is part of the process, not an error. Leave the device until it settles, then reconnect if you want to apply a theme.
What if something goes wrong?
You are modifying system software on a device you own, at your own risk. The device retains a second copy of its current system and falls back to it if an update fails to boot, so a failed install will usually recover on its own.
Please read the Terms of Purchase and Disclaimers before purchasing. They cover this in more detail than a FAQ can.
Who do I contact if I need help?
Email [email protected]. Include what the screen reports and which step you reached. The app displays a device serial number when it connects, and quoting that saves time.
Everything above describes what the software does; the binding terms are in the Terms of Purchase, Disclaimers & IP Notices. Where the two differ, the Terms govern.
